The 5th International Conference ‘Social Boundaries of Work: Politics and Ideologies of Work’ took place online, on October 28-29, 2020. During the first day of the conference, a separate group session ‘Understanding heterogeneity: the cross-national study of precarious employment’ was organised, chaired by Anna Kiersztyn.
Results of the Ph.D. competition
On October 26, the results of the Ph.D. competition within the CNB-Young project were announced. The recruitment committee has evaluated the candidates’ project-related scientific achievements and research experience, and decided to award the Ph.D. scholarships to Remigiusz Żulicki and Stefan Bieńkowski.

The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology (Polish Academy of Sciences) has announced a call for applications for two Ph.D. scholarships in the project „The dynamics of youth employment precarity: drivers, trajectories, and outcomes in a cross-national perspective”. The Ph.D. students will join the CNB-Young project team to conduct cross-national comparative analyses of precarious career sequences among young adults. First results of POLPAN 2018 regarding the labour market trajectories of Polish graduates are now published and available online
In her new article, entitled “Niepewność zatrudnienia młodych dorosłych: analiza sekwencji karier zawodowych” (Job insecurity among young adults: an analysis of employment career sequences), Anna Kiersztyn presents a first assessment of precarious careers among young graduates based on data from the most recent wave of the Polish Panel Survey POLPAN.

CNB-Young researchers at the final conference of the PREWORK project
The final conference of PREWORK, a research project which studies the life strategies and political attitudes of young precarious workers in Poland and Germany, took place on February 11th, 2020 at the Warsaw School of Economics. Among the invited discussants was dr hab. Anna Kiersztyn, who commented on some of the results of the PREWORK project, concerning the strategies for coping with employment precarity and the ways in which precarious workers locate themselves within the social structure.

Discussion on the CNB-Young methodology at the POLPAN Seminar
At the POLPAN Seminar on November 26th, dr. hab. Anna Kiersztyn presented a talk entitled “The Dynamics of Youth Employment Precarity: A Proposal for Harmonizing Life-course Panel Data.” The presentation was followed by an interesting discussion, during which members of the Polish Panel Survey and Survey Data Recycling project teams offered valuable feedback on the theoretical and methodological framework of CNB-Young.
